Why Reykjavik?

Reykjavik, the world's Greenest City

Reykjavik is the capital city of Iceland. It is also the largest city in that country and with its latitude of 64˚08'N, it is the world's northernmost capital city for an independent nation. Reykjavik has a population of 120,165 people (2008 estimate) and its metropolitan area or the Greater Reykjavik area has a population of 201,847 people. It is the only metropolitan area in Iceland.

Reykjavik is known as being Iceland's commercial, governmental and cultural center. It is also known as being the world's "Greenest City" for its use of hydro and geothermal power. Reykjavik is a great starting point for exporing Iceland's dramtic landscapes, such as waterfalls, glaciers, and volcanic terrain.

What I like about it:

You get inside a historic lava tunnel which is a fun experience good for once in a lifetime. The hike is about 15 minute a day the darkness inside is different!

Café Babalú

Offers a wide variety of beverage options, as well as free refills for black coffee and plenty of choices for cakes and desserts. They also offer a soup of the day and savory crépes if you're looking for a light meal.

Address:

Skólavörðustígur 22, 101 Reykjavík

What I like about it:

Going to Café Babalú is like stepping into the home—or imagination—of some bizarre and confused grandma with a hoarding problem, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Flóran Garden Bistro

Situated in and outside a greenhouse, the bistro is strongly inspired by the surrounding beauty and grows much of its own produce in the restaurant garden.

Address:

Reykjavik Botanical Gardens, 101 Reykjavík

What I like about it:

The bistro's surroundings make Flóran one of the most aesthetically beautiful places to eat and drink in the city.
